I just wanted to offer a success story. You may
recall my troubles with the VxPocket pcmcia sound
card. I've been kept from my linux sound
explorations for a few weeks due to life's other
exigencies, but upon returning to the lists I read
about Nando's build of 2.4.20-4 and Takashi's
repairs to the vxpocket driver.  

So, voila, I upgraded to 2.4.20-4.ll, built the
latest Alsa CVS on my system - now I have a
functioning vxpocket!  I'm still nagged by that
startup problem (the sequence of events, where
asound gets loaded early, then the hotplug tries to
start it again, etc), but I seem to recall a
suggestion about blacklisting the vxpocket, then
scripting a separate startup for it later in the
process.
