That did it... thanks.  However, I ran into some additional problems
with alsa.  It seems that running ./configure with pd and any alsa
switch (i.e. --enable-alsa or --disable-alsa) disables alsa support, and
only by leaving the switch off entirely does pd build with alsa
support.  At this point, though, there are some warnings about improper
integer to pointer casts, and since pd builds with the -Werror switch,
things stop.  Oh well, I'll play with it some more tomorrow.

Well, I do certainly appreciate your efforts, and I would be interested
in using the 0.37 version even without the externals.  And if there is
any way I can lend a hand, please let me know.
