I did a little more work on this. I tried installing the kernel directly
from the kernel RPM, and ended up with 2 entries in the RPM database for
kernel-2.4.21-1.ll.acpi !! I --erased the package(s) and tries again from
synaptic - same result.

I now have a working install by removing the planetccrma-core_2003.06.16
package manually, and removing the alsa and kernel RPMs. I then --installed
the kernel and alsa-kernel RPMs, followed by the planetccrma-core_2003.06.16
RPM, and all's well now.
