The "sound comes back when booting into fc4's kernel" is to be expected as
you only installed the driver for CCRMA's kernel (and that's what is
apparently causing the conflict).<-



I've had a similar problem on a laptop.  I can get everything set up the way
I want it with modprobe.conf and the alsasound service, but once I reboot
the soundcard order gets jumbled.  I suspect udev is the culprit, though I'm
not sure -- this happens even when alsasound is enabled as a boot-time
service (it doesn't even get a chance to load its modules because the
modules are already loaded by the time the service script is run).  What
besides udev would load modules like this?  Kudzu?  Anyway, I put
"/sbin/service alsasound restart" in /etc/rc.local, which works fine... but
it's a kludge.  I'd rather know how to get alsa to load its own modules from
its boot service.
