This is one of the great features of this card. Use the envy24control
mixer (included in the PlanetCCRMA packages) and you will see a mixer
screen. This is your hardware mixer. Note that this has NOTHING to do
with input levels into Ardour (see below). Use the patchbay/router tab
to send whatever signal you want to the digital mixer. Note that the
digital mixer can be heard on out1 and out2. Adjust your monitor levels
on the mixer and you now have zero latency h/w monitoring. I generally
deselect the hw and sw monitoring options in Ardour, by the way.

The input levels into Ardour are controlled under the analog volume tab.
These sliders control the DA converters (i.e., output levels) and the AD
converters (i.e., input levels). Note that DA0 controls the output to
out1, DA1 controls out2, etc. In my setup, out1 and out2 are connected
to my powered studio monitors and thus I only need DA0 and DA1 to be up.
Likewise, AD0 controls In1, AD1 controls In2, etc. Finally there is a
built-in preamp controlled by the sliders labeled IPGA (same numbering
scheme). So, if you are recording through lines 1 and 2, set AD0 and AD1
up and increase the signal using IPGA0 and IPGA1 as needed. You can of
course set the levels by referencing the meters in Ardour. Note that the
meters on the monitor mixer tab of envy24control do not reflect what's
going out to Ardour. This mixer is only for your monitor mix and
actually happens in the card before the signal gets to the Ardour.

I hope this helps. It took me a while to figure this all out. Feel free
to contact me off list if you like.
