Hi Folks. The installed kernels were.
2.6.5-8 the original redhat one (alsa never worked with that)
2.6.10-2.1.ll.rhfc2.ccrma , and kernel-module-alsa package
2.6.10-0.4.rdt.rhfc2.ccrma , and kernel-module-alsa package
2.6.10-0.6.rdt.rhfc2.ccrma (this didn't boot but was still installed)

Alsa worked just fine with the other 2 kernels. Then. I decided to get rid of
2-6-10-0.6. At the same time Iooking for later kernels. I removed 2.6.10-0.6
and installed 2.6.11-0.3.rdt.rhfc2.ccrma, and the kernel-module-alsa package
for it. I don't think I rebooted to try it, as I was only tidying stuff up.
The only other thing I've installed lately, apart from fedora-legacy updates,
was Rezound, which also picked up Fox, and Soundtouch.

Next time I booted up into 2.6.10-0.4 the sounds have gone. Then tried
2.6.11-0.3, the newly installed one, but still no sounds. Then removed
Rezound, Fox, and Soundtouch, just in case. No Change. Then tried
2.6.10-2.1.ll.rhfc2.ccrma. This one worked ok, and Alsa loaded ok, and the
sounds work. Strangely though, cat /proc/asound/version showed it was using
Alsa driver 1.0.8, but synaptic showed the version installed was 1.0.9rc1.
Having just tried that kernel again to check on the 1.0.8 version, it's now
showing 1.0.9rc1.

Then removed 2.6.11-0.3, and the kernel-module-alsa package, in case that was
causing problems, but no change when booting 2.6.10-0.4. Still no sounds.
Then removed 2.6.10-0.4, and kernel-module-alsa package. Then ran.
apt-get planetccrma-core-edge, which installed 2.6.11-0.3 from my local
archive, and the kernel-module-alsa package. Still no sounds.

Below is some info while running 2.6.11-0.3.rdt.rhfc2.ccrma.

2 bootlogs from /var/log/bootlog. The first for kernel
2.6.10-2.1.ll.rhfc2.ccrma, and the second for. 2.6.11-0.3.rdt.rhfc2.ccrma,
which has all the problems, and equally applies to
2.6.10-0.4.rdt.rhfc2.ccrma, which was working ok before these recent
problems.

This log is for kernel-2.6.10-2.1.ll.rhfc2.ccrma, and as can be seen, loads
the Alsa stuff ok.

PCI: Using ACPI for IRQ routing
** PCI interrupts are no longer routed automatically. If this
** causes a device to stop working, it is probably because the
** driver failed to call pci_enable_device(). As a temporary
** workaround, the "pci=routeirq" argument restores the old
** behavior. If this argument makes the device work again,
** please email the output of "lspci" to bjorn.helgaas@hp.com
** so I can fix the driver.
