I just tried opening that link
(http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/mirror/fedora/linux/extras/6/i386/repodata/primary.xml.gz)
in my browser and it did open just fine - prompted me to download the
file. Can you please check this, just to make sure that you don't have a
general connection problem with that server? If you can open the file in
your browser, you should also be able to use yum.

I know that's not much help, but it might help to find the problem.
