[PlanetCCRMA] Bristol synths' UIs (brighton) are blank

Dear people,

I have an annoying problem with Bristol as started with both command 
line startBristol script and CCRMA menus. The synth engine initializes 
correctly, UI window pops up but, alas, it's all white. When I click on 
an area where the keyboard would be, the notes trigger and I get audio. 
It's not specific to any given synth.

There's an unrelated error caused by badly written code to detect jackd 
(line 208.) The real errors "Cannot allocate image" seem to come from X. 
The system is FC6 with the latest updates installed.

See below for some details. I'm posting this here rather than debugging 
it myself since It's likely to be seen and fixed by somebody already.
