This puzzled me too for quite some hours. I finally got for example zynadd working
with vkeybd like this:

1. In qjackctl I had to select the Jack MIDI driver (seq) in the Setup. Stop and
restart qjackctl.
2. I start vkeybd and zynjacku+zynadd
3. In qjackctl, Audio tab, I connect the audio from "zynjacku" to "system"
4. MIDI tab: connect "system" to "zynjacku"
5. ALSA tab: connect "Virtual Keyboard" to "Midi Through"

Et voila, I can do my first test playing zynadd sounds with vkeybd.

This is just an example of course. I don't know why something simple has to be
made so complicated, so don't ask me. Maybe someone else can explain more ?
