I solve this, and all other SELinux problems by booting with "selinux=0" and
not starting any associated services:

> restorecond 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off

grub.conf excerpt:

title Fedora (2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.x86_64)

root (hd0,0)

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.31.12-174.2.22.fc12.x86_64 ro
> root=/dev/mapper/vg_gnulem-lv_root LANG=en_US.UTF-8
> SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 KEYBOARDTYPE=pc KEYTABLE=emacs2 vga=0x307
> selinux=0 nomodeset 5

Trying to do anything with multimedia of any kind, SELinux always gets in
the way. I'm sure it's wonderful for a totally locked down multiuser system
where everybody is logged in via a terminal and editing in vi... but for a
single-user desktop where you're basically accessing devices, memory, or
processes that you're in control of, it's truly a pain.
