Peter,<br>It is probably not the graphics hardware with the intel chipset.<br><br>fedora 14 is past end of life, you should install fedora 15 or 16 instead,<br>this might fix your problem.<br><br>If you are just recording you don't need really low latency.<br>
Same for playing back MIDI files, low latency is not necessary.<br><br>However if you are playing a MIDI keyboard into a soft-synth, you<br>may want a latency proportional to your keyboard skills. Same <br>thing for recording using effects in real time, you want the latency <br>
in proportion with your ability to react.<br><br>For recording with Audacity or playing back MIDI files with Timidity <br>the standard kernel with 1024x3 (bytesxbuffers JACK setting) plays <br>with no xruns on my equivalent laptop and is adequate for my piano <br>

I have just installed FC14 with the low latency kernel on a Dell Vostro<br>
1710.<br>

The GUI freezes after anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours. This<br>
usually happens when a dialogue box or application window opens.<br>
Occasionally it happens when clicking a button.<br>

The mouse moves around the screen ok but the GUI does not respond to<br>
clicks or keystrokes. No way to get into a console to see what's going<br>
on, so a hard reboot is the only solution.<br>

It does not appear to happen with the unmodified kernel.<br>

I have tried using KDE instead of Gnome but the problem is actually worse.<br>

Are there any ideas about what is causing this and what might be a<br>
workaround?<br>
What information would be useful to post here? (hardware? which log<br>
files?...)<br>

I have tried recording with the basic kernel. Latency seems to be<br>
exactly the same as with the modified kernel. However midi playback is<br>
not as smooth (clicks at start/end of midi segments).<br>
