hi all, replying to myself with a (for me) surprising observation:

yesterday i tested for fun my DVD drive with an actual DVD disc in
there. and what do you think?

hdparm -tT /dev/hdc now gives me 5.5MB/sec disc read speed!

i put in the original disc with whom i tested, and it only does
1.40MB/sec. this is a 4-speed burned CDRW. hmmm. then i took a
commercially pressed data CDROM and retested. 3.10MB/sec.

ergio conclusio : hdparm results while testing your cdrom or dvd
drive depend on the media used!!

ofcourse if i stick to one disc, i can still see relative
improvements or degradations in performance while tweaking the
settings. i guess.

ALEX
