Dunno about "a lot".  The only "odd package out" is cmt, all the other
ladspa plugins are name-plugins.

That's not a good idea IMHO, jackd isn't a daemon per se, and blocks
audio hardware when OSS or alsa apps try to use it.  This would not be a
good default configuration.  If you want to start jackd when you boot
you could just add a line to /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

Regarding this and the recent post about Ximian RedCarpet.  Up2date in
fedora core 1 can make use of apt-get repositories.  Users can just add
one relevant line to /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources to include the planet
packages when running up2date.  That's just if you're using up2date that
is distributed with fedora core 1.
