Thanks. I got it working on Gentoo with a little help from a budding audio
junkie I've infected with all these applications. It turned out that the
Gentoo ebuild already had an entry to create this using a tmpfs entry in
fstab. All I had to do was turn it on.

I'm now getting -n 4 -p 64 from the on board sound chip and -n 2 -p 64 from
the HDSP, so it's working well. Like Steve, I won't run that fast, but it's
nice to have some guard band.
