[PlanetCCRMA] next prob: midi doesn't work

Hello (again)

I'm afraid I've got another one.

ALSA sound seems to have installed OK (I think).  But midi doesn't work,
by which I mean I cannot get the sequencers talking to my external synth
which is plugged into the joystick port.

The soundcard is a SoundBlaster Live.
All the correct midi devices appear, including in the config dialog
boxes on Muse.  However, no sound comes out of them when I play, nor
into them when I record.

I have tried things like "cat </dev/midi0" and "cat </dev/midi00" -
these things show up in "ls /dev" but both return the response "device
not found".

Attached below is the output to a few commands in case this helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
