Fernando,

This is in reply to your (and Roger's) messages of earlier today (I read
them at work but cannot reply from there). I had posted this in my

-------------------------------

I am using the curent PlanetCCRMA kernel, alsa, hotplug, and ezusbmidi
RPMs.

Roger,

The MidiSport cold-plugging worked with the kernel you are using for me
as well. What I mean by cold-plugging is as you describe - the device
is initialized on bootup. Hotplugging, thankfully, worked before and is
still working fine, so I can use this device without a problem.
However, I would love to not have to unplug it and replug it to get the
firmware and drivers to load, since I turn off my computer while I am at
work during the day.

When I upgraded to the 2.4.20-4.ll.acpismp kernel (from the 2.4.19-1.11
you are using) cold-plugging stopped working. I have not changed
hotplug (2002-8-26) or ezusbmidi (2002_11_17-1)

Fernando,

Yes, I am using the same USB port when I disconnect/reconnect, so there
does not appear to be anything at all wrong with the hardware.

As I mentioned, my system is a RedHat 8.0 with all the current CCRMA and
all the RedHad updates installed. All audio apps work just fine
including MusE, Rosegarden, and Ardour along with Jack, etc.

Roger,

Exactly what do you have in /etc/hotplug? I mean the files in under
usb/ as well.

Jim,

Interesting! I tried snd-virmidi and got the same result as you
regarding available ports and the behavior of Pd, but I still haven't
found time to make any sense of Pd to follow your problem any more
closely. I'll share more if I get more info.

This is a nice device, and a convenient way to connect the outside
musical world to a Linux box. It merits getting all these problems
resolved. Again, guys, thanks for your responses and any assistance you
can provide!

Frank
