Depends what you want. Is it for a flyer or a small publication? In that
case there's also scribus which does DTP, but lyx is better for writing
bigger and less varied things, like documentation, books, journals or
research papers... Also lyx has been around for longer, whereas scribus
is as I understand it is just starting to be known and used.
