As Fernando said, Jack needs to be running first. 

1) Start Jack
2) Start Aplaplayer using Jack (alsaplayer -o jack)

Alsaplayer automatically connects it's outputs to Jack and audi is
produced.

If you are using the Alsaplayer binaries that Fernando supplies then I'm
sure it does work. However, if you are building Alsaplayer from source
then I beleive you'll need to make sure that Jack is included at the
./configure stage.
