[PlanetCCRMA] which to use - RH9 or FC?

Josh,
   FC3 and be prepared for a few things to pop up during install of
the audio apps for the next few months, or FC2 and be pretty clean
from the start. Either would be my choice far above RH9 which is now
not supported by anyone as far as I know.

   I think that both FC2 and FC3 should be pretty comparable in terms
of performance. FC3 support will likely last a bit longer than FC2 so
your next upgrade will come later with FC3 than with FC2.
