Sorry I can't help on the other ?  I usually use fdisk on my Win ME boot 
floppy to partition new disks. I normally have only 2 partitions for my Linux 
installs. I'd suggest about 12GB for the / partition, and about 20GB for 
the /home. Obviously the usual 2x physical memory for swap. I also usually 
allocate about 20GB as fat32. This I find usefull for keeping backups on, as 
fat32 is accessible by all. You may wish to dual-boot another Linux distro on 
the same drive, and being able to access all the data on the fat32 partition 
can be quite usefull. All the best. Nigel.
