my log contains neither "dsp" nor "oss". it does contain this:

ioctl(3, SNDCTL_TMR_TIMEBASE or TCGETS, 0xbffe6918) = -1 ENOTTY 
(Inappropriate ioctl for device)

is this relevant?
anything else i should search for?
