[PlanetCCRMA] external soundcard future

I have been noticing the trend of laptop manufactures having no expresscard
slots nor firewire ports. Also in the last few years they have only been
offering a limited amount of USB 3 ports, however since USB 3 has become
pretty standard there hasn't been any audio-interface manufactures
producing anything utilizing USB 3. In the last few months that may have
changed, but I have been wondering what people have been doing in this
situation and when we'll see at least USB 3 supported properly.

As for myself I have been picking up older high-end laptops that have at
least an expresscard slot, firewire port, or a base station that adds them,
i.e. Lenovo X201, which were pretty common and can sport an i5 CPU, handles
8 GB of RAM, and has an expresscard slot to add a firewire port. I use a
base station to add more USB 2 ports. It has one USB 3 port.

I keep seeing firewire audio-interfaces being sold new along with USB 2
ones. I am at a loss to explain what computers people are using for these
that are new.
