[PlanetCCRMA] Audigy Latency Issues

Benjamin,
   Hi & wecome.

As an ex-KDE user I can tell you I had a huge number of xrun
problems with that Window manager the last time I used it. (Over 3
years ago now) In leaving KDE I tried Gnome which didn't work much
better at the time and finally settled on fluxbox for a couple of
years. fluxbox is one os a number of very light weight WM's out there
- fluxbox, openbox, blackbox, etc. are all probably very good options
for Linux audio, but may be far too minimalistic for someone just
coming over from Windows. A number of LAU types running Ardour, etc.,
use it as did I for quite awhile.

Today I'm a Gnome user and am mostly pretty happy. It has a
reasonable mixture of iconish things like Windows would but runs far
fewer processes than KDE. You might give Gnome a try.

It's also possible that you're looking at some sort of machine
configuration issue also. We could look into that if you continue to
have problems after trying some different WM's.

Good luck,
Mark

P.S. - no help from me on the ReBirth/Rosegarden question.
